COMMERCIAL REPORT.
Wool.—Messrs. Southey and Son make the following remarks in their circular, received per European, and dated the 17th of August, respecting the sales of colonial wool then in progress :-*■ The July series commenced on the 16th ultimo, at prices l£d..to 2d. higher than the closing prices of May. . The greatest spirit has prevailed up to this time, with every prospect of continued firmness, and . prices have further slightly improved since the opening. Sydney wool may be quoted at 2Jd. advance,, Port Philip and Van Diemen's about 2d., Adelaide fully the same ratio, on the latter sales in May. Certain marks of Cape wool barely show this advance ;' but, in general, wools have fully anticipated'in the enhanced prices. ■ . Larger than the usual proportion is being taken for foreign account. The Yorkshire markets, during the course of these sales, have much favored us. 70,292 bales have passed, and about 12,000 remain to be sold. The sales close on the 22nd instant. :
