Late trading Friday

Late night shopping is to revert to normal hours this | Friday — now that | the power crisis is j over. | The vice-president of the Taupo Retailers' Association, Mr R. Greenwell, said shop proprietors had agreed to revert to nine o'clock closing on Friday nights. "We don't know exactly how much power was saved by early closing but we do know that it worked," said Mr Greenwell. "Early closing on Friday was universally accepted by Taupo people." In May the retailers . decided to close at 7.30 p.m. to conserve power . during the height of the national energy crisis. Shoppers were encouraged to "buy early and eat later" on Friday nights so that 7.30 closing could be satjsfactorily implemented.
