Local fliers take part in pilot hunt

Taupo Flying School and Air Services Ltd were called in last week to help lodk for the light plane whijph is overdue for more than eight days on a flight from Ardmore to Gore. The pilot is Mr Roy Courteney, of Gore. His plane is believed to have crashed north of Wanganui. Taupo pilot, Mr Peter

Matich, was alloted 400 square miles to search on Friday. Mr Jock Beange accompanied Mr Matich as an observer. While in the air, the men found what was thought to be the missing plane. But a check the next day revealed the 'wreckage' as the remains of an old weather balloon.

The brother of the missing pilot is in Taupo. Mr Matich was to have taken him on a private search of the area yesterday. ABOVE: Pilot Mr Peter Matich [left], with observer Jock Beange, before taking off on Friday to look for the missing plane.
