Blooms to brighten hospital

Volunteers from the Taupo Floral Art and Garden Club make a weekly projeet of decorating the foyer at Taupo Hospital. Since the hospital opened a handful of club members have taken turns each week fo supply an arrangement for the foyer. At the annual meeting i recently more of the club's 50 members were asked to take a turn. The projeet organiser, Mrs A. Graham, now has 28 names on her roster. [ "It is a way of sharing our appreciation of flowers [ with the community, and the arrangements certainly give the institution a lift [ with their bit of colour," I' she said. j Each member in charge I of the weekly arrangement tends as well as prepares it. With the heat in the

hospital, the displays have to be carefully watered at least every second day. "It takes quite a bit of time when you have to think up an idea, collect the necessary flowers, take your arrangement to the hospital and then look after it for a week," said Mrs Graham. "But the matron is very appreciative of our efforts and I think people ' do notice." Problems can arise in Taupo with the shortage of materials, but other club members are always keen to help supply flowers and leaves. Colourful dried arrangements sometimes replace fresh floral displays. "The arrangement each week is just up to the member concerned and to the availability of materials," said Mrs Graham.
