Aussies lead visitor stakes

The Taupo Borough Council was shown New Zealand visitor statistics for the 12 months ended October 31, 1973, at its meeting last week. The greatest number of visitors were Australians, 143,855 of 51.2 per cent of the total. Americans were next with more than 56,000 visitors (20.1 per cent). Both countries took a step up from the corresponding period the previous year, when Australians numbered 116,000 and Americans 52,000.
