Taupo to stage Freyberg tourney

Taupo Golf Club will stage its first national tournament, the annual Freyberg Rosebowl tournament, in 1978. Advice that the tournament had been allocated to the club by the New Zealand Golf Council at its fixtures' meeting last week, has been received from the Bay of Plenty delegate on the council, Mr I. Macfarlane, of Rotorua. Application for a national fixture was made by the

club only a few days before the council meeting. Expressing pleasure at the allocation, vicepresident Mr M. B. Orr said major works would be undertaken on the new course before the tournament. Bunkers would be introduced, fairways would be improved so that the lie could be played and, if finance permitted, all watering systems would be placed underground.
