Plan for island

The Taupo County Council has received an application for consent for a change of use to develop Cherry Island on the Waikato River. « The application, made by Mr and Mrs D. C. Henderson, of Taupo, includes plans to develop the island as a park exhibiting trout, wildlife, flora and fauna. Restaurant, conference centre, shops and toilet facilities are also included. The island, of approximately 7891 square metres, is on the Waikato River between the Lake Taupo outfall and the Huka Falls. A bridge from the island to the mainland has been included in the development plans. Mr Henderson said yesterday he was unable to comment on the proposal at the moment. Details would be made available later.
