New man helps Freightways score crushing victory

Freightways trounced Rebels 12-0 in the A grade table tennis competition played on Monday night. Rebels never looked like taking a game at any stage. Centrepin of the Freightways attack was promoted B grade player Joe Osborne. He proved far too strong for the Rebels' old hands. Borough A also had a good 10-2 win over Wairakei B. Gay Vowles and Peter Rundstrom conceded only one game each. Wairakei A strengthened its position on the points table when it defeated M.Y.C. by 9-3.

In the B grade Plyco A defeated its old rivals, Plyco B, by the comfortable margin of 8-4. United and M.Y.C. had a 6-all draw. Borough I and D.S.I.R. also drew 6-all. In the C grade M.Y.C. and Borough I had good wins. M.Y.C. beat Tutemohutu by 10-2. Borough I beat Forest D 11-1. Forest A and Forest B fought out an interesting evening's play which ended in a 6-all draw. Members of the Figgest family clashed when . Borough II played College A. Andrew Figgest eventually showed the most promise to strengthen the more youthful college team, which ran out the winners 8-4.

The D grade matches also saw some resounding victories. The first came when Freightways went down 10-2 to Borough III. Wairakei also lost 10-2 to Taupo. College B beat College D 7-5.
