Public bar to be renovated
The public bar at the De Brett Thermal Hotel is to be renovated and extended — providing the proposals meet the fire, health and building requirements and the written consent of the district commissioner of works is obtained. Last year the council approved a conditional use application to erect a new lounge bar over the site of the hotel's old swimming pool. Renovations to the public bar will follow as soon as the new bar is ready. * * ♦ The council has approved three grants.
They are $200 to the Napier Frivolity Minstrels' hall project fund, $10 to the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand and $10 to the Sir Douglas Robb C.M.G. Memorial Tribute Fund, set up by the Auckland Medical Research Foundation. Many organisations in Taupo have benefited from the annual Labour weekend performances of the Napier "Frivs". The group has been operating for 77'years and give about 20 charity shows a year. They have never owned a building before, and are planning to buy the Buffalo Hall in Ahuriri.
