Councils to study bay development
A joint st&ff technical committee is to be formed by the Taupo borough and county councils to guide them in the future development of the Taupo Bay. One of the first subjects the joint committee will discuss is land fof housing. The borough council has considered zoning for residential purposes two areas which adjoin county land and which would reasonably require roading sys-
tems formed to service the adjoining county land. The borough works committee recently considered a proposal to change the zoning to residential use of all land within the borough presently zoned rural. Its intention was to make more land urgently available for residential subdivision. Of five areas considered, two were required for recreational use and two small areas were considered to be best subdivided in association with county land. A potential subdivisional plan is in the offing for J. : 38 '
the remaining block, but the feeling was that it could proceed more easily under a specified departure application, rather than await the formalities involved in a change of zoning. It was decided that the borough and county councils should discuss, as a matter of urgency, two areas . suitable for residential subdivision. One area at Nukuhau and another near the De Bretts Thermal Hotel were considered best developed in association with adjacent county land.
