Subsidy word is awaited
The Taupo Senior Citizens Association hopes work on its new clubrooms will be well under way by the end of the year. As soon as word from the Golden Kiwi Grant's Committee in Wellington is given on the expected $50,000 subsidy, working plans will be drawn up. The committee's decision is expected any day, the association president, Mr W. S. Hasler, said. "As soon as the working plans are completed we will call for tenders." Providing the association can get a builder to begin immediately, Mr Hasler said work would be "well on the way by the end of the year." Plans on the new clubrooms have been altered since their inception 18 months ago. The first ideas were for a complex for com-
munity use. But due to the lack of finance, much of the community aspect had to be curtailed, said Mr . Hasler. The building's size has been reduced considerably. It was now more I compact to suit the I senior citizens' require- I ments. The new plans envis- 1 age a lounge, entirely for the use of the senior ( citizens. ; There is a recreation room, which Mr Hasler says, can be let to suitable groups. With the expected E $50,000 from Wellington and $20,000 on hand, the senior citizens say they will have to raise another $10,000. The club has various projects in mind to do I this. They include a variety concert and fair-day. Mr Hasler said local service clubs were also combining to help raise I the money.
