Careers night "successful"

The first careers evening held at the Tauponui-a-Tia College last week was "a successful excercise." The careers adviser at the college, Mr M. Drake, said about 350 attended the evening. Of those. 90 were pupils. The remainder were parents and employers. Pupils and employers discussed various aspects of their occupations and. Mr Drake said, a lot of information and new ideas were cxchanged.

"The evening generated a lot of interest and employers should capitalise on this over the next couple of months," he said. More careers evenings will be held next year. As an immediate followup to last week's function, the college is planning several luneh seminars on specific occupations. Prospective employers will talk to interested pupils about their jobs. Mr Drake hopes to hold" two such seminars over the next six to seven weeks.
