Green fees rise at Taupo and Wairakei
Green fees have been increased at the Taupo Golf Club and the Wairakei Hotel international course. In the first rise for several years at Taupo, the charge for 18 holes was lifted last week from $2 to $2.50. The club captain, Mr M. J. Cook, said an increase had been delayed as long as possible. Steep increases in the cost of wages and salaries, seeds and manures, petrol and general items of maintenance had made an increase inevitable.
At Wairakei the cost of 18 holes was raised from $2.50 to $3 about two months ago. A concession rate of $2.50 a round was available on a 10-round ticket for $25. The manager, Mr R. S. Bittle, said the Wairakei fees had risen only once in four years and temained below the amount charged at many metropolitan clubs. Many visitors had expressed surprise that the facilities at Wairakei were available for such a modest cost.
