Teams suffer big losses at table tennis
Several teams suffered crushing defeats in the A grade table tennis competition on Monday night — possibly because several top players were absent. Freightways went down to Wairakei A 11-1 and Wairakei B beat Rebels 11-1. Borough A and M.Y.C. had a closer battle. Borough eventually won 7-5. ■ In the B grade, United and Plyco A had to settle for a 6-all draw after some very even matches. Plyco B was soundly beaten 8-4 by Borough. D.S.I.R. lost 9-3 to M.Y.C. The C grade also saw some heavy defeats. Borough I beat Borough II 10-2. Tutemohutu beat Forest B 10-2. College A beat M.Y.C. 8-4. The only close C grade match was between Forest A and Forest D, which ended in a 6-all draw. In the D grade College D
defeated Wairakei by 11-1. Borough III defeated College B 8-4. This was the first loss of the season for College B. Freightways and Taupo ' ' drew 6-all. Points to date. — - A grade: Wairakei A 83, Rebels 71, Borough A 68, Freightways 58,. M.Y.C. 43, Wairakei B 37. B grade: Borough 73, M.Y.C. 67, United 65, Plyco A 60, D.S.I.R. 48, Plyco B 35. C grade: Borough 87, Tutemohutu 65, College A 64, Forest A 54, M.Y.C, and Forest D 48. D grade: College B 94, Borough III 73, College D 62. Wairakei 37, Freightways 31, Taupo 2.8. Some of New Zealand's top juniors will be in action at the Youth Centre in the New Zealand junior championships at the weekend. Play will begin on Saturday morning and continue on Sunday.
