Wharerangi: where does project stand
Sir, It is noted as a fact that on Monday, July 8, at 12 o'clock there were no beds available in the Taupo General Hospital. This was possibly due to ^the fact that some of the old folk in the hospital were occupying beds there , when they should have been in an old folks' home. The transfer of these old folk would release beds and so eliminate some of the emergency journeys to Rotorua Hospital by ambulance. This brings me to the old folks' home, Wharerangi, and questions I would like asked publicly are. — 1. Is it true there is $250,000 to spend on * the old folks' home? 2. Is it true that some of the plans drawn up show that the residents have to walk through the dining room to get to the lounge? 3. Is it true that foods, e.g. potatoes, etc., are to be prepared at a V
lower floor and then lugged to the kitchen for cooking? These are a few of the questions I would like answered, and no doubt many other people in Taupo are interested in the same thing. I was one of the public who helped raise money for this project that seems to have sat on the shelf far, far too long. Possibly with Mr Ridley's help a piece of Government land or reserve could be donated to this worthwhile cause and $250,000 spent exclusively on a building that would be new, and not $250,000 used on rejuvenating something that is obviously wrong right from the beginning. I would like to hear your comments, you, the people of Taupo. Please get behind this as we need to have some public outcry to get prog'ress. Inflation is catching up on this project faster . than the money is growing in the bank.
