Fair share or drop in the bucket?

Sir, This week we heard the announcement that our Minister of Finance had . decreed that an extra $22 million he made available by the trading banks for home mortgage finance. Excitedly I took pencil and paper to decide what Taupo's share should be. On a pro rata basis, and disregarding any special circumstances, it seems

that this magnanimous gesture by Mr Rowling should make an extra $73,000 available to would-be purchasers in Taupo. As most young couples require at least $15,000 to finance the most modest house, it would appear that the real estate agent who described the amount as a "mere drop in the bucket" was certainly not overstating the facts.
