Forest loan sought
Further afforestation at Rangitaiki, on the NapierTaupo Road, means that the Taupo County Council has to raise a loan of $160,987. Councillors voted this week to apply to the Local Authorities Loans Board for sanction to raise the money. The security for the loan will .be a special rate of .0097 cents in the dollar, * secured on the unimproved value of all the rateable property within the Taupo county. Councillors decided last month to extend the county forestry scheme at Rangitaiki by 1600 acres. It will give a total of just over 2000 acres of Douglas fir and pinus radiata, established under the forestry encouragement scheme. The first 195 hectares of Douglas fir were planted adjacent to the Rangitaiki vTavern in 1971. Planting of a further 596 hectares will start in the same area next year.
