'Shambolic' bus depot is criticised
Taupo's bus depot has been described as a "draughty, shambolical buildings out of touch with modern amenities. In a letter to the executive of the Taupo Chamber of Commerce, Dr - A. R. Martin has asked that ways and means of up-grading the terminal facilities be investigated. "This is a near-monopoly as regards bus terminals in Taupo and the people who run it must therefore have some responsibility for providing adequate facilities for this service," he said. "Too often Taupo, people . and visitors have to stand in a cold^ draughty area mingling with buses, bus d rivers writing in the air on their pieces of paper, ' passengers' luggage and' freight all mixing around in one area. "I think the approach should be ma'de at top level to the ehairman of direct'ors because I . believe complainfs have been made at a lower level with no action taken." The secretary of the ; chamber, Mr G. H. Clout, | has written to the ehairman j of directors of Mount Cook : and Southern Lakes Tour- : ist Company Ltd, asking if : any plans are being conj sidered to up-grade the ; Taupo bus terminal. : "The chamber considers : that passengers deserve : more up-to-date amenities : than exist at present," said : Mr Clout. i No reply has been re- : ceived from the tourist i company yet.
