Harriers placed fifth
The Taupo harrier A team took fifth place in the well contested Cambridge harrier relay on Saturday. Some 40 teams lined up for the start in cold blustery conditions. John Sharp ran First for Taupo and put in a good opener to come in ninth. Taupo's second man, Bruce McGregor, picked up two places to hand over to Keith Scandlyn in seventh place. Scandlyn ran a solid lap but was unable to hold off a fast Putaruru runner — and at the end of lap three the team was eighth. Last lap runner, Noel Bennett, maintained a steady pace and picked up three runners, two over the last three-quarters of a mile to bring his team home fifth overall. For Taupo's first tilt at this relay, it was a very commendable effort. • The Taupo B team of Rob Taylor, Rob Pullyn, Bernie O'Donnell, and Tom McAneney ran a steady race to come 22nd. Results were: — HamilI ton A 1, Tokoroa A 2, Hamilton B 3, Cambridge A 4, Taupo A 5, Putaruru A 6, Matamata A 7, CYM A 8.
