Familiar face to leave acting scene
One of the most wellknown faces in Taupo's drama circles is to leave Taupo this week. For nearly 30 years Mr Roy Wesney has been appearing on stage — the last four with the Taupo Dramatic Society. Although tge likes ariy type of acting, Mr n Wesney says he usually winds up in a comedy role. Character acting is his main love. A good character role, he says, gives scope to any acting ability one may have. During his time in Taupo Mr Wesney has appeared in' about six productions. They include "Rape of the Belt", "Arms and the Man", "See How They Run" and "Shock Tactics". "And they were all good fun," he said. Roy Wesney is used to appearing before an audience, and his years with television have certainly helped his technique. He ran a weekly
programme, "Sports View", on WNTV 1 for nearly two years. And he is proud of the fact he was the first person to be televised when that channel was beginning nearly 11 years ago. "We were due to start broadcasting on the Monday," he recalled. "And on the Sunday afternoon we did a test run. v "I did an interview with the All Black wing three-quarter, Ron Jarden. "That was virtually 24 hours before WNTV 1 \Vas officially on air." After four years with the Wairakei information office, Mr Wesney has been transferred to NZED head office. Mr Wesney is looking forward to renewing theatre acquaintances in Wellington. "There is a lot of scope with Downstage and numerous other groups," he said. "And I certainly intend joining one of them;"
