Singers in prize-winning voice

Six music pupils of Mrs ,Maureen Potter performed with distinction in competitions at Tokoroa, Tauranga and Rotorua tyThe children were aged from 11 to 14. They are from left: Michael Bynevelt. As well as winning the Mrs Hodder Challenge Cup for the junior champion under 12, he was placed in four separate singing grades and won the under- 12 junior vocal championship. He was also placed third in the beginners' piano solo. Natalie Mahar was highly commended in two ballet sections and gained two highly commendeds and a third on the piano. For singing, she gained two second places and two very highly commendeds. Sharon Dixon was placed in five piano sections, including winning the Dene Hopcroft scholarship and the Mrs Gardner Challenge Cup, and gained places in three vocal sections. Glenda Comber won the F. Salt Cup for the vocal girl champion under 12. Vicki Thomas was placed in five vocal sections, which included a solo and selfaccompanied song, plus a vocal duet with Susan Haldane. Susan Haldane won the scholarship for intermedi-

ate vocal and intermediate champion challenge cup. She was placed in four other vocal sections.
