HARBOUR PLANS SOUGHT
The Marine Department is to be asked what plans it has for upgrading facilities and the general appearance of the Taupo boat harbour. This action was decided by the executive of the Lake Taupo Development and Protection Society at a committee meeting on Monday night. The decision was made to seek the information after discussion on the proposed $100,000 marina development at the tail-race of the Tokaanu power station. "Facilities at Taupo, where there is a far greater cojpcentration of boats and boaties than at Tokaanu, are in need of attention," said the president of the society, Mr P. M. Wilson. "If the Government is prepared to spend $100,000 at Tokaanu, it is not unreasonable to ask what upgrading and additional facilities are planned for Taupo." The society is also to write to the Taupo Borough Council Jo inquire when the council will be releasing further details of its proposed revised district scheme. A copy of the preliminary policy statement by the council was published earlie.r in the, year, and a copy sent to the society. The committee has been waiting for further details, so that it can study them and comment on the proposals. As yet no further details have been released, or objections called for. The district scheme is required to be reviewed every Five years, and made public. The Lake Taupo Development and Protection Society is taking an active interest in town planhing, both in the borough and in the greater Taupo area.
