Debating and adjudication on programme

Debating — the art and • how to adjudicate — will be the theme for the next Taupo Toastmasters' meetings Two mini debates are planned, involving 16 club members, and other rnembers will mark score sheets. Three senior club members, Roger Greenwell, Michael Wilson and Warwick Keys, will act as master evaluators and point out the "whys and wherefores" of debating and' debate adjudication. Debating is definitely "catching" and the toastmasters' club will be facing a formidable tearri from the Taupo Business and Professional Women's Club in August.

The last such clash saw the Taupo Yacht Club filled to capacity and a repeat performance is hoped for. The winner of the toastmaster of the evening award at the last toastmasters' club meeting was Ted Reid with a speech on "Attitudes to Drinking." Colin Cockburn struck a double by winning the evaluation award and the "clanger" award for the worst faux pas of the evening. Jock Graham earned the table topics award 'for impromptu speaking. Other speech assignments were completed by Frank McGrogan, Bert Hart, Norm Wilson and Bernie Rolls.
