Former MP forms new Taupo club
v More than 40 women v gathered recently and formed the Taupo Women's Club. , Mrs Rona Stevenson told those present how she had got five women friends and thieir husbands together to discuss the possibility of forming the club. The men formed themselves into an advisory committee and the women a steering committee. The recent meeting was the result of much consultation and deliberation. One of the men, MajorGeneral W. S. McKinnon, presided and it was unanimously agreed a club be * formed. Officers elected were. — President, Mrs Rona Stevenson; vice-president, Mrs Di Young; secretary/ treasurer, Mrs Nola Morine. Committee: Mesdames June Greenfield, Barbara Paterson and Anna McKinnon. The club will organise regular social gatherings and also establish circles for its members. A mah jong circle has already started and others, such as, ? gardening, embroidery, music, social bridge, card games other than bridge, handcrafts and such, could soon follow. In the meantime, all activities are being held in the senior citizens' hall. The club is grateful to the senior citizens' association
for the use of the hall. It is hoped the club will be able to find its own premises but inquiries so far have proved fruitless. The first social function will be a coffee morning on July 5 at 10.30 a.m. in the senior citizens' hall. Members and prospective members will be welcome.
