DELAYS PLAGUE WORK

In his monthly report to the Taupo Borough Council, the borough engineer, Mr Kiddle, complained of delays in getting construction materials for contract work. "Investigations are being made to ascertain the needs over the next 12 to 18 months," he said. "It is becoming increasingly apparent that forward orders must be placed well ahead to ensure that construction works do not cease entirely due to hold ups in the supply of materials." Delivery dates were delayed 56 weeks for asbestos cement pipes for water and sewerage reticulation, 18 months for cast iron fittings, two to three months for concrete pipes, four months for earthenware pipes, and three months for plastic piping, said Mr Kiddle.
