Businessman's tidy up bid praised but...
A Taupo businessman's efforts to tidy up Miro Street have been commended by the Taupo Borough Council — but it would not approve the permanent surfacing of the street berm, at its last meeting. Mr R. G. Davis had complained that continual car parking on berms had destroyed the original and replacement grass in the area. Although councillors agreed that Miro Street's growing use as an arterial route for traffic from
Crown Road warranted some consideration from a beautification viewpoint, they did not want berms concreted for fear that it would encourage vehicles to park in an area reserved for pedestrians. The council decided to arrange the painting, on the roadway, of vehicle kerbside parking bays. It also indicated its approval of any suitable plan of tree planting designed to prevent vehicle access on to the berms, and offered to supply topsoil to reinstate a grassed berm.
