Rubbish collection times to be changed
The Taupo borough refuse collection timetable is to be changed to allow for a Tuesday and Friday clearance of the commercial area. This follows problems in the business area with the 7 a.m. Monday clearance. Refuse has had to be left out over the weekends — - exposed to the weather, vandals and animals. Under the new timetable, local retailers have agreed
to put out rubbish bins at the close of trading on Mondays and Thursdays. The borough engineer, Mr W. K. Kiddle, told the council the new refuse collection contractor, Mr J. Gidlow, was concerned at the amount of extra refuse being left at kerbsides by residents. On one day 110 additional bins were put out for him to colleet. To overcome some refuse collection problems, time-
table adjustments would take effect from July 1 to provide a more convenient service and spread the contractor' s work lbad evenly, Mr Kiddle said. He said a growing tendency to use plastic bags was also worrying the contractor. A by-law banned the use oi such bags, because of the danger of injury from glass and the havoc caused by dogs.
