, Taupo Intermediate School is taking positive steps to keep potentially idle pupils busy. During the lunch break children not occupied with other activities are sanding down and painting the old Taupo Water Ski Club boat before it is sent to Auckland for auction. The principal, Mr R. G. Williams, said it would at least show the public "the other side of the coin." "We would like to see these children take part in community work but the trouble involved in getting them to and from their destinations doesn't really justify it," he said. Instead, the school is making an appeal to pensioners or anyone who has odd jobs to do — to bring goods which need mending to the school and the students would be able to work on them. , Last week Taupo youth and parents were criticised for apathetic attitudes towards their responsibilities. "Since the articles appeared in the Taupo Times on the problem I have been virtually inundated with phone calls from parents inquiring after their children," said Mr Williams.
