Tribute paid to Sir James

About 35 members attended a general meeting of the Taupo Rose Society held recently at the Anglican hall. Tribute was paid to the late Sir James Wattie, who was patron of the society. Following a minute's silence, the society's president, Mr Carlyon, spoke of the assistance Sir James had given to the society over the years. The guest speaker was Mrs Win Cumming, of Woodville.

She is a well-known rosarian who gave an interesting and witty outline of the foundation of her rose garden which contains more than 500 roses. The talk was illustrated by colour slides and she answered many questions from the floor on all aspects of gardening. The next meeting is planned for July and will take the form of a coffee morning.
