Club buys new patrol boat
The Lake Taupo Yacht Club has bought a 21 foot patrol boat. The club commodore, Mr Roger Greenwell, said this second boat will enable the club to give a much more thorough coverage of the lake. The boat, brought from Auckland, was built by Fairey Marine, of England, and is powered by a Volvo Penta outdrive. The top speed is estimated to be in excess of 20 knots. Mr Greenwell said the boat will be manned by a
regular skipper and crew thoroughly versed in all types of rescue procedure. Use of the craft will not be limited to the yacht club. Mr Greenwell said it will be available for general search and rescue work on the lake. The club estimates it will take several hundred dollars to put the boat into first- class order. "Members will be working on it over winter so it can be ready for the opening of the season on Labour weekend," said Mr Greenwell.
