Garden comp. plan
A garden competition will be held in Turangi during celebrations in October to mark the 10th j anniversary of the new township. When the town was first established, garden competitions were staged, but none have been held in recent years. This year a panel of judges will decide the winners in various categories. These include home gardens, street competitions, separate garden features, and commercial properties. Judging will be based on cultivation and maintenance, and on flowers, trees, shrubs and lawns. Mr L. Nicholls, of Taupo, who is advising on the rules, will probably be one of the judges. Turangi' s anniversary celebrations will probably start the week before Labour weekend and reach a climax on Labour Day, October 28. The Turangi Promotion Council has formed a sub-committee to organise the event. Activities planned include a mardi gras, sports meetings, cultural events, demonstrations and exhibitions on various subjects, and a parade of floats.
