JOB UNDERWAY
Work has begun again on extensions to Taupo's pumping station — under the guidance of the Taupo Borough Council. The council took over the works aimost two weeks ago after an emergency meeting to consider the slow progress being made on the original contract. In July last year a tender of $168,881 was
accepted from the Smitheram Construction Company, which offered to finish the contract within seven months. Extensions to the pumping station on Lake Terrace were only 60 per cent completed when the borough council steppCd in. "Work is now proceeding and the block work is due to start so we can get the roof on the building," said the
borough engineer, Mr W. K. Kiddle. "We are still waiting for prices from various sub-contractors and I have no idea when the station is likely to be in operation. But we are certainly pushing it." He said the water supply pumps had been installed and the pipe work associated with them was now being done.
