Chamber will seek review of licence
The Taupo Chamber of Commerce is to seek permission from the Licensing Control Commission for another hearing to review the hotel licence granted the Moonraker project last year. Last week the Taupo County Council refused to extend a specified departure consent which expired on April 26 on the project. The Cpmmissioner of Crown Lands and the
Licensing Control Commission had given the company involved until June 30 to prove that acceptable progress had been made on the Moonraker. The council, in refusing the extension, decided that enough progress had not been made. But the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr A. E. Turley, has given assurances that the land near the airport will remain available for a hotel, even though the Moonraker project had failed to go ahead. Mr Basil Jones, a spokesman for the commission, said that now he presumed
the licence would be revoked. "I suppose the commission will review the situation in Taupo to determine the necessity or the desirability for another licence," he said. "The company have no option but to hand the licence back — it will be re-advertised to try and get someone else in and if this can't be done there will be a rehearing for a new licence." The secretary of the Taupo Chamber of Commerce, Mr G. H. Clout, said the chamber would continue to press for a hotel or tavern licence for the town.
