Strong team will seek to take cup

The Taupo Har- ever in the annual rier Club will field Tauwhare Cup its strongest team cross-country races on Saturday.

The races always attract the top Waikato runners because they form the basis of selection for the Waikato harrier teams to compete against Auckland and Northland at Auckland on June 29. The Taupo A colts this year are at their strongest peak. Gary Dryden is Taupo's main hope for the title. His form so far this season has been excellent. However Kerry Hurren, Mark Howell and Keith Wilson, who will also be competing, should be in the running. Ross Clunie and Keiran I Walsh complete this strong team. Eight seniors are entered in the main event — the rugged 9000-metre crosscountry. The runners are the best seniors to represent Taupo for some considerable time. Bruce McGregor and John Sharp are expected to finish well up — as is Noel Bennett. Taupo's three B colt runners — Timothy Marshall, Glen Clunie and Allan Attwood , — are all running well. Glenys Dryden is Taupo's hope in the junior ladies' 2000-metre race. She is a fine little runner and should be right there at the finish. Transport to the races leaves from the post office at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
