Film group goes into recess
The Taupo Film Society is to go into recess until November because of "circumstances beyond its control." The society president, Mr D. E. Sparkes, said it was regrettable that films would not be screened this season. "We hope to make an early start on the selection of films for next season at a general meeting in November," he said. The society normally screens films of a classical and restricted nature not normally shown on public circuits. These films are drawn from world-wide producers and studios. "Because of the restricted rating by the
censor of some films, people under 16 cannot become members of the society," said Mr Sparkes. "This does not mean that banned or 'blue' movies are screened." All films screened by the society have a censor's certification. , "They are shown to stimulate appraisal and discussion on the finer points of the art of filmmaking," he said. Officers elected at the annual meeting last week were: President, Mr D. E. Sparkes; secretary, Mrs A. C. Groome; treasurer, Mr A. W. Lindup. Committee, Mrs B. Wheeler, Mr T. Nicholls.
