Spa hotel wins building appeal

The Town and Country Planning Appeal Board has found in favour of the Spa Hotel in its appeal against a decision by the Taupo Borough Council to decline a building permit. T. A. Heath Ltd, the owners of the Spa Hotel, had sought the permit to enable alterations and extensions to its bar premises to be carried out according to requirements laid down by the Licensing Control Commission. The council had declined the permit on the grounds that the site was likely to be affected by geothermal activity, flooding, erosion and instability of foundations.
