Television names are popular

Television and films are J having an influence on names as children are being related to heroic characters the first to mind being Jason King of 'Department S" fame. But others such as Marcus as in "Marcus Welby M.D.", Darren as in "Bewitched", and Lara, as in the film "Dr Zhivago", are also becoming more common. Looking through the records of 1970 christenings we found Marie and Jane more favoured as second names, and Allana, Amanda, Mandie becoming more used. This trend of changes seems to be the same for both Sexes. Jason appeared to be the most favoured boy's name last year, possibly because of

the popular television series, and the suave star J ason King. More common names such as John, Peter and David, were used more as second names, with Darren, Dean, Shane and other less used names coming more into the limelight.
