REPEAT WIN IN CROSS

LAKE SWIM

Palmerston North swimmer Tony Arlidge repeated last year's winnirtg effort in the cross lake swim from Acacia Bay to Two Mile Bay on Sunday. But his time of 1 hour 28 minutes 40 seconds was considerably outside his 1970 time of 1 hour 12 minutes. The swimmers had to battle a moderate head wind and choppy lake conditions. Second home was another Palmerston North swimmer, Donald Haliby, third was David Mayo (Palmerston North) and fourth Kathleen Kroll, also of Palmerston

North, who was the first woman competitor to finish. The first Taupo swimmer at Two Mile Bay was Patrick Cox, who was fifth overall. Quentin Fogg, the youngest swimmer to complete the course and Allan Haliby, both of Palmerston North, finished in equal sixth placing. Trophies were presented for the various sections and each swimmer received a special towel marking the successful crossing of the lake. ■ Picture shows Tony Arlidge leaving the lake at the completion of the race.
