Child care
The director of the National Highway Safety Bureau of the United States has found it necessary to issue a new standard of child seating systems in motor vehicles because of the great variety of unreliable systems sold on the American market. Some of them do little to protect a child in the event of an accident, others may even increase the severity of the injuries.
Child seating systems are now required to meet minimum performance standards. They are defined as "An item of motor vehicle equipment for seating and restraining the child being transported in a passenger car, multi-purpose passenger vehicle, truck or bus." The manufacturers will be required to provide purchasers of seating systems with information relating to their proper installation and use.
