An interesting collection of hats, with origins in countries throughout the world, always provide a talking piece with visitors at the Rangitaiki Tavern, about 25 miles from Taupo on the Napier road. When the new tavern opened just over a year ago the hat collection, which had started at the original Rangitaiki Hotel about a mile back up the road toward Taupo, was transferred. The hats belonged mostly to forestry workers who called for refreshment at the old hotel and left in such states that they forgot to take their hats with them.
