Meet the Members stamp activities

Young stamp collectors need help and guidance with their collections. This is one of the reasons why the New Zealand Junior Stamp Club committee have planned so many 'meet the members ' (and other young collectors), activities for 1971.

It is expected that the club's committee of four young men from New Plymouth will meet and help over 500 young collectors this year. Two of the committee members, Rob Hunt and Trevor McCracken, will be organising special meet ings for youngsters in Whangarei, Papatoetoe, Hamilton, Putaruru, Hastings, Lower Hutt Nelson and Dunedin. These meetings will have three main features. There will be a talk and display followed by an informal discussion period where members of the group may air their views on collecting or ask for advice on aspects of the hobby. The gatherings will end with a competition such as a quiz or a project. The major activity of the year will be the club's seventh Philatelic Youth Camp being held at Kaiapoi^ just out of Christchurch, during the May school holidays. These adven-

ture camps, with stamp collecting as the main feature have been very popular. Talks, displays, prpjects, swapping, helpful hints, visits to the Post Office, Museum, a printing and newspaper office are all features of the week long programme. The Blue Skies Campsite will be the headquarters for the camp which will be limited to 50 boys and girls in the 10 to 16 age group. -Another 50 youngsters from Auckland will be able to attend a Philatelic Weekend at the Campbells Bay Health Camp early in July. This will be the first weekend that the committee has organised but they are anticipating that it will be as successful as their camps. A small camp or similar activity may be held in Palmerston North in August to coincide with the Manawutu Philatelic .Society 's New Zealand Junior Stamp Exhibition.
