Afforestation
The Minister of Forests,' Mr Maclntyre, will be invited to plant the first tree in an exotic forest planned by the Taupo County Council near Rangitaiki. At a meeting on Tuesday council confirmed its inten- ^ tion to raise a loan of $38,000 for establishing and maintaining the forest of 45 1 acres. Standing native timber will be preserved and the first planting in the new venture, by Mr Maclntyre, is proposed on May 4. * * * ■ Four tenders were received for ^ the relaying of,sewer mains in Mangakino. F. G. McPhee, with a tender of $6637.62, was the successful applicant. Prices ranged from Mr McPhee's $6600 to $16,700. * * * » A tender of $2085 submitted by D. Briggs, of Turangi, for the construction of a -» morgue in Turangi was approved by council. The morgue is to be completed before March 31. * * * Council has declared Welted ^ Thistle a noxious weed. * * * Council. will purchase a new mower for the Turangi Reserves staff as the existing equipment is not able to cope with extra work. *•4
