At present the department

expects that the project will yield 42 new farms — 1 each of about 1000 acres — but this will depend on economics experienced under actual farming conditions. At present 9000 sheep and 286 cattle are being stocked on the Whakatau block but this number will be greatly increased as more land is brought into grass.
