1480 DEAD DISCOVERED The remains of 1480 Soviet prisoners, killed in a Nazi death camp, have been discovered near Simferopol in the Crimea, during excavation work. At a press conference in Simferopol it was pointed out that over 4,500,000 Soviet citizens were killed by the Nazis in the Ukraine. In those days Simferopol, like many other Crimean towns, was a huge dungeon. Mass executions were carried out in an anti-tank ditch in the Kurtsevskaya Ravine, the "potato townlet", the Armenian cemetery and other places. In late 1941 and early 1942, Nazi punitive detachments mowed down about 12,000 Soviet citizens on the Simferopol-Feodosia highway. Thousands of people — prisoners of war, guerillas, and local residents, including women, old people and children — were detained in a concentration camp in the territory of the Krasny State Farm. The Nazis and their henchmen massacred them all on the night of April 11, 1944, when units of the Soviet Army were approaching the city. This was established by a Ukrainian Government commission, set up after the discovery of the tragic remains. It has now been proved ( that 10,000 people were mas- [ sacred on the territory of the Krasny State Farm.
