Cheque alert system fails

These business houses are then required to notify three others as instructed by the C.I.B. and so on untii all business houses in the town have had a warning of the cheque passer. When the system was put into operation recently a large number of shopkeepers failed to fulfil their obligations and had not passed on the warning as they were required to do, said Detective Hawkins. "A number of businessmen and shopkeepers were unaware of what had been going on when a check was made later. "This is particularly disappointing as the scheme has been designed for their protection," he said.
