Miraculous Escape

Two young men miraculously escaped serious injury when this car in which they were travelling left the road and somersaulted about a mile from Wairakei on the Wairakeiy Tokoroa highway last Thursday morning.

The driver, Mr Claude David Gemmell, Auckland, received minor cuts and bruises while his passenger, Mr William Pairama, Turangi, was taken to the Rotorua Hospital by ambulance for observation. Mr Pairama has since been discharged from the hospital. The car was extensively damaged and the Taupo Volunteer Fire Brigade was called to the scene because of the danger caused by a large amount of petrol leaking from the car.
