C.O.B. v TAUPO

College Old Boys, resuming at 73 for two chasing Taupo's 208 for four declared, lost its remaining eight wickets for 25 runs. Vivian was the destroyer and his bag of six wickets on the day cost him a paltry eight runs. College Old Boys' captain John Darlington failed to add to his overnight tally of 45 before being snapped up at slip by McPherson, who also sent Ron Nathoo packing for a duck two balls later. From 73 for two it became 74 for four and, with Alan Hunter clean bowiing G. Pearse and Vivian capturing newcomer B. Cooper and lefthander Jim Govind, College Old Boys' stocks had slumped to 84 for seven The tail wagged briefly, but Vivian, who maintained a good line and length and did a little with the ball both in the air and off the pitch, clean bowled John Lewis and Alan Surrell at 92 and 95 respectively, and Hunter trapped Ian Mollison lbw to complete the rout. Darlington and Bret Halverson saw 44 on the board before they were parted in the follow on. Darlington snicked Terry Tabernacle to first slip, where McPherson clasped, but couldn t hold the catch. The ball went up and forward and Vivian as second slip , completed the catch. Halverson departed at 52, Pearse at 68, Cooper at 77 and D. Sharrock at 92. All of the top five reached double figures. At 96 for six and 100 for seven College Old Boys was still in trouble and only a sound and determined knock by Govind prevented Taupo from taking maximum points. As it was time and, late in the day, runs were against an ultimate decision and College Old Boys came out of the encounter with an honourable loss on the first innings. McPherson, Hunter and Tabernacle shared the wickets. taupo (First innings . . . 208 for 4 dec.) college old boys
