LATE SHOPPING WAS NOT WORTHWHILE
In a survey carried out yesterday the majority of Taupo business houses agreed that the first of the preChristmas late shopping nights, Monday, was not worthwhile. The survey revealed the general reaction as a preference for Tuesday night opening or only opening late on Christmas Eve as it was unnecessary to open two nights a week or New Year's Eve when both were slow nights. But some, although they were only a few, regarded the late night opening on Monday as a success. These few, mainly gift shops, found the opening we.nt much better than expected, but explained that they would have preferred a Tuesday night opening. All agreed that there was not enough publicity given to the pre-Christmas late shopping nights, as this was the
first time it had been tried in Taupo. The object of the two nights pre-Christmas late openings was to give the residents of Taupo a chance to do their Christmas shopping before the influx of visitors began.
