Push-button dialling
A revolutionary public telephone, designed to outwit vandals, has been introduced by Associated Automation Ltd., of London. Designated Type 800, it does away with the usual handset and dial and uses push button numbers instead. A wall-mounted grille is the receiver and transmitter for listening and speaking into — leaving the caller's hands free for writing. It contains a facility for inserting coins of any denomination before making the call should the correct money not be available. When the conversation is finished, on pressing the refund button, the correct amount of money not used on the call is returned. All the equipment is enclosed in a xh inch steel sheet, and it is claimed that it would take 30 minutes to get to the cash box should the kiosk be broken into.
