SOME TOYS CAN BE LETHAL
Some toys can be Iethal weapons if misused, and children should be made aware of this, says an article in "Health" magazine. An injured eye, for in-
stance, may affect a child's whole life. Most eye injuries in young people can be prevented. Permanent damage^ can be caused by: air guns; bows and arrows; bats and balls; fireworks; rocket type toys; horse-play with sticks and stones; flying splinters and nails when chopping wood; blows from fists. Parents should ensure that household cleansers are kept away from children and that • pans on cooking appliances are adequately secured, the article advises. Permanent damage can also be caused by: cooking fat or household cleansers; knitting needles; pencils; loose wires; broken glass; skipping ropes; flapping wet washing; splashes from hot water.
